To Our Readers,
Building on the success of the World Wealth Report, we are pleased to present you with our first Asia-Pacific Wealth
Report. In recent years, the region has witnessed tremendous economic growth that, in turn, has fueled an increase
in wealth accumulation. This report is another example of our long-standing commitment to better understand the
investment behaviors and trends of high net worth individuals (HNWIs) around the world.
Within the following pages we seek to help you understand the behaviors of HNWIs in eight markets: China, Hong Kong,
India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. Together, these constitute 89% of the regions GDP and
HNWI population.
While Asia-Pacific largely mirrored the global trend toward decelerating GDP and market capitalization growth in 2005, the
region grew faster than other areas of the world. In fact, more than half of the markets detailed in this report were among
the worlds top 10 fastest-growing HNWI populations last year.
The varying stages of economic development across the region create strong market-to-market contrasts in HNWI
behaviors and their asset allocation strategies. For example, in 2005, Asia-Pacific HNWIs continued to rebalance their
portfolios and diversify across asset classes, with a growing interest in alt
