Studies in the Rhetoric of English News Abstract: Rhetoric is a kind of the skill or art of using language effectively and improves the language expressions in an efficient way. News report covers all kinds of information about a recently changed situation or a recent event. In order to convince people, the news bases on public trust, besides respecting the true attribute of news, frequently need some special and specific but necessary rhetoric means by the news writers to make the news more attractive and easy reading for those especially the normal people. This paper will elaborate the rhetoric usage form in news writing, its function and the problem that should be noticed one by one. Keywords: Rhetoric；English New I Introduction With China’s international influence increasing and the world pay a great attention to the development of China, information is playing a significant role in people’s daily life. News is a kind of vital means to touch the outside world. All kinds of news especially the international news reaches Chinese people everyday, through multiple ways such as newspapers, magazines, TVs, radios and so on. These mass messes have been always trying their best to catch people’s eyes, facing the fierce competition. To compete for satisfaction of readers, the newspaper attaches great importance to the writing rhetoric. News writing is different from other article writing. This thesis consists of four chapters: Besides the first chapter ----- the introduction here, chapter2 is the core of the thesis, it is a detailed analysis of the rhetorical features of English news and their functions.. Abundant examples of news text are collected from several popular newspapers home. Chapter 3 presents a brief conclusion of the rhetoric of English news.
