ABSTRACT Language and culture are closely knitted and cannot be separated. Films, as the most interesting reflections of language, reflect profound historical and national culture. And the cultural differences between Chinese and English result in the difficulties in audiovisual translation. Nida’s equivalence principle with its emphasis on the reader’s response is especially useful for Film and TV play translation. Based on the analysis of audiovisual translation of this thesis, the author tries to apply Nida’s equivalence principle to audiovisual translation, so as to get proper translation strategies which can be applied to film and TV translation.
