* Prospective Adoption Returning to the scores – Ask the audience if this graph makes more sense, now that they better understand where it comes from. It is important, when using this data, to pay close attention to how the measures are worded. Especially at first. With practice, you will gain a better understanding of how these are worded. At first – READ THE MEASURE before attempting to interpret. * Descriptive v. Prescriptive * Population Flow out of the NEW DATA PACKAGE * Composite 4 from the OLD DATA Package * – Its a judgement call. – It has more than 2 points, – And it needs to be going somewhere. Watch out for “noise” and ”bumps” in the data. * Prospective Adoption Graph from the New Data Package Obviously, from March 2005 – September 2009, the over-all trend has been positive. But, starting in September 2008, the score drops. Is this a trend? Possibly. Two points – no. Two points make a line, not a trend. However, three points may indicate a trend. There are several approaches to answering the questions for this. 1) Can you think of a clear explanation for the change that would lead you to believe it is a trend? 2) Look at the Demographic Breakouts – Is one (or more groups) disproportionately affected? 3) Continue to watch the measure. If it drops for a fourth time, it is almost certainly a trend. * What, if any, trends do you see here? Especially talk about the drop in the last three reports and how that its probably not a trend down as much as a long-term leveling. * First go through the new data packages. Read the descriptions of the various measures. Its a good reminder of how the various measures are constructed. Focus on the graphs. We will look at the tables and all the pretty numbers, but for right now, lets just look at the graphs. It is easier to visualize a trend than it is to “see” a trend through a bunch of numbers. Then go to the Old Data Package and pull up the CFSR Composite Scores. Look at those graphs. * – The five measures
