Identify time expressions in the passage on p. 239(see Task 3) Activity 2 Coherence Review ——In Unit 1 Activity 4 Features of Good writing (cohesive devices), and in Unit 5 Activity 1 (tenses and time expressions), we have actually learnt how to make sure a text is coherent by linguistic means. Tasks 3, 4 and 5 deal with layout or format, but try to use vivid words as reporting verbs. (p.205) Reporting verbs which carry additional implications besides the core meaning of “say”: add, admit, agree, announce, answer, ask, beg, boast, cackle(格格地笑[说]), claim, command, confess, croak(用低沉而又沙哑的声音说), cry, declare, explain, gasp, growl (愤愤不平地说), laugh, murmur, mutter, object, order, protest, reply, report, shout, scream, snap, tell, urge, warn, whistle, yawn Writing practice: Compose a short story. You can either adopt the natural time sequence or unexpected time sequence.
