As per agenda, she welcomed Jim Walker and Adrian Hack to deliver presentations on NEETs and Youth Employment Scheme (YES) respectively. NEETs Presentation – Jim Walker 2.1 Jim provided a comprehensive overview of the new cross cutting NEETs Strategy “Pathways to Success” (presentation attached). He outlined the background and the scale of the challenges, saying that in NI there are approximately 12,000 16 – 18 year old who fall into the not in employment, education or training category and approximately 46,000 16 – 24 year olds. The strategy comprises a three tier package of measures aimed at: preventing young people falling into the NEET category in the first place; helping young people in the 16-18 age group, especially those facing barriers to participation; and assisting unemployed young people aged 18-24 more generally. 2.2 The Group welcomed the new training allowance available for 16 and 17 year olds participating on existing programmes funded by the European Social Fund. All agreed that progression pathways are an important factor. 2.3 Jim explained that work was ongoing to improve the tracking systems in NI and that the Careers Service would continue to case manage young people that drop out of
