Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional survey of cohorts of total 287 nurs- ing students from Shanghai Vocational and Technical College. Their communication ability was measured and the factors influencing the communication ability were analyzed. Results: The total score of communication ability of vocational nursing students was 75.86 ± 14.72. The relationship between teachers and students, mother’s occupation, skill scores, the degree of communication knowledge, understanding of the communication between nurses and patients, be willing to work in a nursing profession, all these factors have statistically significant (P 0.01 or P 0.05). Con- clusion: The pertinent intervention measures should be taken to improve the communication ability of the vocational nursing students.
