ThestudyofanticomplementactivityofAsterageratoidesandPanaxginsengAbstractThecomplementsystemplaysanimportantroleinhostimmunedefenseagainstinfectionandintheclearanceofantigen–antibodycomplexesfromthebloodstream.However,whenactivatedinappropriately,thecomplementsystemmaycauseavarietyofdiseasessuchassystemlupuserythematosus(SLE),rheumatoidarthritis(RA),andacuterespiratorydistresssyndrome(ARDS)Withtheincreasesinourunderstandingtheroleofcomplementactivationthatinvolvedinthediversifiedpathologicalprogresses,theinhibitionofcomplementactivationinthesediseasesorsurgicalapplicationswouldlikelyhavesignificantbenefits.Butthereisstillnodesirabletherapeuticcompoundavailableonthemarketforcomplementinhibition.Numerousnaturallyoccurringagentshavebeenshowntohaveanti-complementaryeffects,andtheyoffertheprospectofinexpensiveandnon-toxicstrategiesforthetherapeuticinhibitionofcomplement.Aspartofourcontinuouseffortstosearchforanti-complementaryagentsfromAsterageratoidesandPanaxginseng,bioactivity-directedfractionationandisolationofthesetwomedicinalplantswerecarriedout.24compoundsfromAsterageratoidesand12compoundsfromPanaxginsengwereseparatedandpurified.Besides,thefurtherresearchontargetswasimplementedonsomeofcompoundschosenandthemainfindingsareasfollows:Screeninganti-complementarytraditionalChinesemedicinesandidentifyingtheactivitypartofthemarkedmedicine.8TraditionalChineseMedicineswereinvestigatedontheanticomplementactivity.Ofthesematerialdrugs,AsterageratoidesdemonstratedthestronginhibitioneffectandtheCH50ofthe95%alcoholextractwasnomorethan0.02mg/ml.Similarly,everyfractionoftheAsterageratoideswasscrutinizedthroughanticomplementactivity.Comparedwithn-butylalcoholpartandaqueousextractthathadnoactivityatall,thepetroleumetherpartandtheethylacetatepartshowedstrongactivity,whoseCH50were0.007mg/mland0.140mg/ml,respectively.Bytheway,theactivityofgensinosideswasobvious(CH50=0.34mg/ml)too.AbstractThestudyofanticomplementactivityofAsterageratoidesandPanaxginsengThestudyofanticomplementactivityandt
