AbstractLithium-ionbatteries,whichhavehighcapacityandlonglifespan,arenowthedominantpowersourcesforportableelectronicdevices.Tomeetthegrowingneedforhighperformancelithium-ionbatteries,searchingforalternativeelectrodematerialsisanessentialstrategy.Cobaltoxide(Co3O4)isapromisinganodematerialforlithium-ionbatteriesonthebasisthatithasahightheoreticalvalueof890mAh/g.Besides,nanostructuredelectrodematerialscanexhibaitenhancedelectrochemicalpropertiescomparedwiththeirbulkcounterparts.Inthisthesis,nanostructuredCo3O4weresuccessfullysynthesizedandtheirlithiumstorageperformanceswerestudied.PorousCo3O4hexapodsweresuccessfullygrownoncopperfoilthroughafacilehydrothermalmethodfollowedbyathermaltreatment.Theas-preparedCo3O4hexapodswerehighlycentralsymmetricwithsixblades.Theas-preparedCo3O4hexapodsoncopperfoilusedasanodesforlithium-ionbatteriesexhibitedaveryhighreversiblecapacityof900mAh/gandanexcellentcyclingstabilityafter30cyclesatacurrentdensityof100mA/g.ThegoodelectrochemicalperformancewasattributedtotheuniqueporousstructureoftheCo3O4hexapodsandthegoodcontactwithcopperfoil.AfterthecarboncoatingtreatmenttotheCo3O4hexapods,thesamplesexhibitedanenhancedreversiblecapacityof1200mAh/gandbettercyclingstabilityunderthesametestcondition.TheratecapabilityoftheCo3O4hexapodswasalsoimprovedafterthecarboncoatingtreatment.Fromtheresults,wecanconfirmthatthecarboncoatingtreatmenttotheCo3O4hexapodsincreasesthewholeelectricalconductivityoftheelectrodeandfacilitatesthelithiumioninsertion/extractionprocesses.Co3O4arraysgrowndirectlyoncarbonclothwerealsosuccessfullypreparedthroughthesamesyntheticstrategy.TheCo3O4arrayswereconsistedofnumerousbrush-likebrancheswithtightconnectiontothecarbonfibers.TheCo3O4arraysoncarbonclothshowedexcellentflexibleandbendableproperties.Thelithiumstoragepropertyofthesamplewasinvestigated.Whencyclingatacurrentdensityof100mA/g,theCo3O4arraysoncarbonclothshowedareversiblecapacityashighas819mAh/gafter40cycles.Ratecapabilityofthesamplewasstudiedbydischarging/chargingatvariousc
