In recent years, as well as haze and acid rain, municipal solid waste （MSW）collector and transportation is paid more attention according to the increase of MSW production which is caused by the development of the economy and the rise of the population. What is more, the cost of MSW collector and transportation occupies 40～80% in the whole process of MSW management. Accroding to some research, MSW collector and transportation problem is an extended vehicle routing problem （VRP），and the problem could be classified into point VRP, arcVRP and rollon-rolloff VRP（RRVRP） due to different collector and transportation modes. This article is focused on RRVRP，and established an optimization mathematical model on MSW transportation system. After that, making a case study on Longhua, Shenzhen, the parameter definition was based on statistical data and the network analysis fuction in ArcGIS. Then, utilizing tabu search algorithm to find the satisfactory solution with Matlab. In this article, three scenarios were discussed, scenario one: take Laohukeng eco-town as the only disposal site; scenario two: take all the twelve disposal sites in Shenzhen as the disposal sites, and the disposal capacity limitations were the same as the actual disposal capacity; scenario three: the disposal sites were the same as situation two, but the disposal capacity limitatons were 20% of the actual disposal capacity. According to the scenarios, in scenario one, the cost of MSW transportation can drop about 45%; in scenario two, the transportation cost reduced to 12.02 yuan/t which was merely 1/6 of the actual cost; in scenario three, the cost decreased to a large extent as well.
