Learn to talk about the past events . Teaching preparing Chang Yan Teaching System, a projector Teaching procedure Step 1 Review Ask several students to write some new words on the blackboard. Let other students write on the notebook. After finishing it, the teacher marks their works who write new words on the blackboard. Step 2 Lead-in The teacher shows two pictures by the projector. Then asks: What was he/she doing? Write the question on the blackboard. Help students answer the questions. Step 3 Presentation Grammar Focus Turn on the English electric book, pay attention to Grammar Focus on Page36. Help students understand the sentences’ meanings. Mark the important language points with the electric pen. Ask students to read the sentences after the teacher. Ask students to read the sentences in the box with a partner. One student asks, the other answers. Then change roles. Step 4 Practice Activity 4a, 4b Activity 4a Ask students to look at the table on the electric book. Invite two students to read the phrases and explain their meanings. Read the example sentences for the students, make them understand how to do this activity. Give students several minutes to do the work. The teacher moves around the room and offers help. Finally, invite three students to present their sentences. The teacher writes them on the blackboard on the electric book. Correct mistakes. Answers: While John was playing the piano, Mary left the house. /John was playing the piano when Mary left the house.
