In comparison with 2G, 3G is characterized by mult imedia, and supports for mult iple rate voice and data services, and is able to provide services in any time and any place to any person with strong adaptability. As the most mature standard of 3G, WCDMA has become the main battlefield of the worlds major communications equipment manufacturers. With the developed of market demand, the engineering and technology have been becoming the main obstacle of WCDMA tending towards large-scale commercial over the world. With the constant emergence of the high- speed data services represented by HSDPA and HSUPA, baseband system as a core component of WCDMA air interface faced with tremendous pressure in the data processing. In view of the physical layer features, this paper studies resource allocation process of baseband system, and introduces a centralized resource allocation strategy to move resource management task from the baseband processor system to the high- level control system. The strategy is aimed at reducing baseband system load to control costs and improve performance under the premise of no hardw are upgrade. The follow ing are the contributions of the paper: Based on the analys is of resource allocation processes in a baseband system with typical structure of mult i-processor, the method, that each processing unit manages resource belonging to itself, brings the system some negative effects such as repetit ion of algorithm, code redundancy, increasing flow- through processing t ime, reduction of real- time quality, bad tolerance and poor roll- back ability of resource allocation. In light of these sho rtcomings, this paper introduces the idea of centralized resources allocation and draws that the control CPU in high- level is the best choice to establish resources abstract model.
