PAGE PAGE IV pronunciation words in Lotus Sutra in one book; moreover, most previous researches on variant pronunciation words were limited to wordbooks and lexicographical workbooks. Thus, the study on Lotus Sutra from the perspective of variant pronunciation word is one of the innovation points of the thesis. Cross-discipline research is also one of the conditions that new research directions emerge; more meticulous and new research directions spark in constant impact and collision between disciplines. The study of variant pronunciation words in Lotus Sutra is just the starting; through people’s discussions and researches, the researches on variant pronunciation words in Buddhist studies will also gradually be back on track. In this paper, the author believes the variant pronunciation words’ proportion in Lotus Sutra is as high as about one over ten, but repeat rate is very high. In the thesis, the author selects and studies seventy-one variant pronunciation words in Lotus Sutra, these words appeared in this book about five thousand two hundred times ,indentifies their pronunciation by looking up information, and confirms the real meanings of Buddhist scriptures by determining the literal meanings on the basis of pronunciation. In his works titled Wuming’s Views of Nirvana, Seng-chao said, “the way of nirvana is lonely and vast; and it cannot be expressed by words; besides, it is subtle and has no fixed form, so it cannot be feltThe Buddhist scriptures mention “the ones who really get nirvana are not based on oral teachings.” The author’s study also is only limited to the surface and more deep connotations are to be explored; besides, more real meanings contain in the hidden treasure of Buddhist scriptures need scholars to explore and discover.
