Probe inlo True or False Originality toward Chapters 53 to 57 in Cihua Edition 0/ Golden Lotus Major: the classicalliterature Postgraduate: Jiang Chaojun Tutor: Liu Yiguo Abstracl: Golden Lotus ís regarded as one of the four most miraculous novels ìn Ming Dynasty，partly because there are too many mysteries about the novel ，for instance ，who is the author ，when the novel was finished and whether the novel was wrí tten by a single person or by a collective. The paper will deal with one of the questionable but still unresol ved issuesthat whether Chapters 53 to 57 in Cihua Edi tion 0/ Golden Lotus is supplemented by someone else. 1n the thesis ，the author concludes that the five chapters were supplemented in three main aspects. Firstly ，compared with the other 95 chapters，the plots and characteristics in these five chapters are filled with many contradíctions. Secondly，with view to adapted methods from Cihua Edition ofGold θn Lotus to Xiuxiang Edition of Golden Lotus，the authorn as10 concludes that the five chapters are different from the other ninety-five chapters ，and that the aim to remedy the flaws in the five chapters of Cihua Edition stands out，which indicates that in the eye of the reviser of the Xi uxiang Edi tion the five chapters don t come from the original works. Thirdly ，the author still can come to the same conclusion frαn the angle of the wri ting of the ti tles ，the way to end each chapter and the methods to cite other novels ，huaben and operas of the five chapters，which are not consistent with the other ninety-five chapters ei ther.
