AB STRACT: This essay explores the possibility of reading AsianAmerican literature
alongside trauma theory, and the relationships among trauma theory, Asian American lit-
erary criticism and Asian Am ericanMen Studies. It exam ines the mi pact ofAmerican ra-
cism uponA sianAmericanmen and the representation of their traumatic experience in A-
sianAmerican literature. The ami of this essay is to demonstrate ho trauma theory orks
ithin the orbit of literary studies and, moreover, to further the ork of Asian American
literary criticism.
