Abstract As the creation and development of the Chinese modern poetry come to the 21st century, the theme and style has shown its diversification and arbitrariness. With the popularity of online poetry, the definition of poetry has become increasingly blurred, but the modern poetry is different from the ancient poetry and other modern genre, the poetry’s branches arrangement is the most obvious feature of the new poetry’s “shape”. It has become an important external feature of the new poetry, the phenomenon that one sentence with more than one line widespread in the new poetry. The inter-row is not only the external form and sign of the poetry but also has the effect of shielding and cutting off. The inter-row in essence is a kind of blank, this blank was closely linked with the Chinese classical poetry’s “blank is beauty”, and it points to a kind of ontological poetics. The inter-row of the modern poetry was caused by the desire of destroy reality, it is not save but sweep, it torns open from the consistent context, it undermine the consistent word order, it undermine the neatness of the rhythm, it undermine the harmony of the poetry, and finally restore the original the language. This paper tries to seek the probability that inter-row existed in Chinese modern poetry from connotation and essence.
