Engels’ Marriage Concept and Its Contemporary Value Abstract Love, marriage as well as family is the warmest home to human’s emotions and the basic proportion in human social relationship. Nowadays, China is undergoing a historic period which boasts rapid development in political, economic, cultural and social sectors, etc. With the change of society, the marriage concept of Chinese people reveals new change accordingly. The change is reflected in Chinese people’s concept on romantic relationship, male selection, marriage and bisexual relationship, etc. Under the multi-influence such as value orientation, economic interests, culture and education, and social pressure, the marriage concept of contemporary Chinese people begin to have a negative trend such as utility, open concept of sex, unstable marriage relationship, weakening of moral judgment, dim responsibility of marriage and family, etc. Therefore, the marriage concept of contemporary Chinese people is in urgent need of reconstruction under scientifically guidance. Engels is a great mentor of Marxism in which marriage concept plays an important role in its ethical thought. His marriage concept plays a crucial guiding role in marriage concept construction of the new period of Chinese socialism. This thesis analyzes the theoretical premise of Engels’ marriage concept. Through concluding and analyzing the concepts in other works such as “British Working Class Status”, “Holy Family”, “The German Ideology”, “Family, Private Property and the State of Origin”, this thesis sorts out the thread of the formation, development and deepening of Engels’ marriage concept. Finally, this thesis extracts the main content of Engels’ marriage concept and concludes that concepts such as mutual, exclusive, forever and free love based on Engels’ marriage concept can bring benefits to the construction of modern Chinese marriage concept. Drawing upon from Engels’ marriage concept and constructing the marriage concept which unifies id
