Imagine that these sections are in the prone position and that you are looking up (rostrally) the CNS; thus dorsal (posterior, the back of the person) is at the top of section and the left side (of the person) is to your left. Maintain this orientation as you progress through the cord and brainstem sections. Identify in the white columns (funiculi) the prominent tracts such as the gracile and cuneate fasciculi (tactile discrimination, proprioception and vibration), the posterolateral fasciculus (pain and temperature), the anterior white commissure (pain and temperature), the anterolateral tract (pain and temperature), the lateral corticospinal tract (motor), and the spinocerebellar tracts (afferent to cerebellum).
