Abstract During the current age of network information, the application of multimedia has brought good news to education, serving more and more disciplines. Some teachers and scholars have done some researches on the application of multimedia in vocabulary acquisition. These researches focus on the feasibility and effectiveness of the multimedia for vocabulary acquisition. However, special software for vocabulary acquisition has not occurred. In the author’s opinions, English researchers’ weakness in computer technology stops them from studying similar software. I make an exhaustive study of memorizing English words which has been described as long-standing and difficult. And then I designed and implemented a new kind of vocabulary memorization software which is named College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit with Flash. It strives for integrity in content, including the pronunciation, phonetic, Chinese Interpretation, synonyms, antonyms, derived words, collocations, example sentences, and the method of word memorization. It combines text, images, sound, and animation and can fully stimulate the learners hearing, vision and imagination. So that students will fall in love with words memorization and no longer feel it tedious. In addition, College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit strives for exquisite picture. It is also full of inspiration and humor. College English Vocabulary Acquisition Unit obtains several English teachers’ affirmation and praise because of its originality, including the chief vocabulary lecturer of New Oriental School. I also obtained by experiment that using College Englis Vocabulary Acquisition Unit to memorize words is better than the traditional method.
