The researches on the methods of mercury control from coal combustion are just carried out in the world. The sifting of effective adsorbents and mercury control are very weak. Therefore it should be done urgently that carrying out the studies on mercury pollution, finding the effective adsorbents and studying the mechanism of adsorption. Firstly, The background and research significance of the thesis are summarized in the first chapter. A detailed description is given of mercury emission and mercury control. So as to know more about the properties of mercury emission. Secondly, four kinds of chitosan sorbents — Cu template chitosan, Zn template chitosan, chitosan with impregnation of HYPERLINK /dict_result.aspx?searchword=%e7%9b%90%e9%85%b8amp;tjType=sentenceamp;styleamp;t=hydrochloric%2Bacid hydrochloric acid were made and were analyzed by specific surface 、XRD analysis、Thermal gravimetric （TG）analysis、and FTIR spectroscopy to disclose the mechanism of action with Hg. Adsorption experiments of vapor-phase elemental mercury （Hg0）were carried out using commercially available chitosan （CTS）and modified chitosan in a laboratory-scale fixed-bed reactor. VM3000 online mercury analyzer（CEMS）and Ontario Hydro method（OH）was applied to detect the inlet and outlet Hg0 concentration and to determine the mercury speciation during adsorption process respectively. The results show that the CTS has no effect on Hg0 removal, while modified CTS not only can oxidize Hg0 to Hg2+ but also have ability to adsorb Hg0 and Hg2+, especially when the copper-templated CTS are swelled by Hydrochloric acid, it’s efficiency can achieve 80%.
