Based on Landsat therm al mi ages and the fun tion of spatial analysis in G IS, this paper stud ies the spatial expansion pro ess of Jiangy in ity from the perspe tive of spatial developm ent and then d is usses them ain fa tors w hi h influen e the developm ent of Jiangy in. The result show s that from 1996 to 2005 the urban area in Jiangy in w as expanding w ith qu ite fast pa e and strong intensity, urban om pa tness w as rising during the expansion pro ess and the urban spa tial pattern w as hanging from epitax ial type to pa king type.
