It at- The myth of Sisyphus, and other essays / Albert Camus; translated temp ts to resolve the p roblem of suicide, as The Rebel from the French by Justin O'Brien attemp ts to resolve that of murder, in both cases without the aid of eternal values which, tempo rarily p erhaps, are absent or distorted in contempo rary Europ e. The f unda- mental subj ect of "The Myth of Sisyphu s " is this: it is legitimate and necessary to wonder whether lif e has a meaning; theref ore it is legitimate to meet the p roblem of suicide f ace to f ace.
