The The Research on the Growth and Water Physiological Characteristics of Riparian Populus Euphratica Oliv．Forest Abstract To study the gro、]cda and water physiological characteristics of dominant plant P． euphratieal veill provide a scientific basis for protect the Eiina oasis and distilbute the water of eco-utilization properly．According the purpose of research we have chose the P． euphratica at 3 age period：the die-back tree，the mature tree and the small tree(small tree．1：a11 the type of leaf are narrow；small lxee-2：the lear type of under crown is narrow and the top crown is broad)．The research(include the growth of new branch and 1ear emergence：the diumal change of transpiration rate and the leaf and root water potential； the seasonal change of transpiration rate and the stem water potential，P-V curve)of P． euphratica has been conducted for two continuous vegetation growth period in Ejina oasis． Analyses the change of growth and water physiological characterisfics of P．euphratica at the different age，different type ofleaf(broad and narrow)and different water grads(From riverbank to Gobi 280m1，Some conelusion have been draw as follow：1)Compare the Barrow leaf branch and broad leaf branch．the growth of new branch and the numbers of leaf emergence of narrow lear branch is more big，and leaf emergence is late for 3 or 5 days．nlc growth of branch and numbers of leaf emergence of different age narrow leaf branch as foltow：die-back treesmall tree．2small一1．2、From riverbank to desert the mature tree and small tree have the sanle trend，the growth of branch and the numbers of leaf emergence are decrease and the lime of lear emergence is 1ate．31 With the distance from riverbank to Gobi increasing the diumal change and seasonal change of transpiration rate arc decrease．The diurnal change of 1eaf water potential shows as：in the middle of forest is hi吐and near the riverbank and Gobi is low．m change of root water potential is reverse．4、At the different period ofgrowth．the type
