Abstract With the increase of automotive electronic equipment, traditional point-to-point communication cannot meet the communication requirements of modern vehicles. Using simple and rapid bus network in vehicles has become an inevitable trend of technological development. So far, a new standard bus communication protocol - J1939 protocol has been developed in the field of engineering vehicles. And the complex and hostile application environment has put forward higher standard for the bus system reliability and the faults processing capacity. Firstly, the thesis analyses the research status of vehicle bus system and transient faults safety control at home and abroad. And the paper also analyses in details the topology used frequently in engineering vehicles bus and the J1939 protocol, pointing out the potential transient faults and safety hazards for the bus topology. After an analysis of the diagnostic function provided by J1939 protocol, the theses summarizes kinds of common transient faults of engineering vehicle bus system, extends design the diagnostic trouble code of the J1939 protocol and adds common transient faults in order to make real-time alarm and the faults record convenient. On this basis, the strategy of transient faults recovery is designed from both hardware and software point of view. The best hardware redundancy strategy is designed by considering the actual situation of engineering vehicles and comparing kinds of redundancy strategies, for example, bus-level redundancy, drive-level redundancy, controller-level redundancy, system-level redundancy, etc. And suitable software processing strategy is designed to solve the transient faults from both node-level and system-level.
