Sociolinguistics studies language mainly through the study of social factors, which has a great impact on language teaching, especially on the development of student’s communicative competence and on the language teaching which centers on culture and discourse. At first, this paper briefly introduces the basic theories and study methods of sociolinguistics; then, it points out that we should teach language itself and its relevant social factors aswell,pay much attention to communicative competence and social culture, and stressthediscourseand contextualteaching.
