The Research of English Grammar Teaching in Junior High School under the New Curriculum BA Thesis of Yulin Normal University PAGE 2 PAGE 1 1. Introduction As the integration of world economy, countries communicate with each other more after. English, the International language, becomes more and more important in the course of school. And English grammar, an significant role in English teaching, also becomes a hot topic in the research of English teaching in school. Since 1940s, in order to improve the quality of English talent, China has attached importance to English teaching. However, English grammar teaching hasn’t been valued until 1980s. In the New Curriculum, it points out that the aim of English teaching is to cultivate the comprehensive language competence, which based on students’ language skills, language knowledge, emotional attitudes, learning strategies and cultural awareness and so on. Therefore, by the guidance of the New Curriculum, it becomes increasingly necessary to find out suitable and useful methods of English grammar teaching. China began to implement the New Curriculum reforms in 2001, so under this new criteria, English grammar teaching in junior high school is still in early stage and to identify the status quo of its development is conducive to analyse the current problems in grammar teaching. So far, English grammar teaching in junior high school has made some achievements, but there are still some problems, such as the knowledge of grammar in the textbook-Go for it of the New Curriculum is too broad, the concept of teachers hasn’t been strengthened on time, people pay insufficient attention to grammar teaching and so on. Acknowledged these problems, it’s necessary to find appropriate solutions so as to enhance the quality of English grammar teaching and then promote the development of English education in China.
