Rigid metal plates stabilize the fracture site, maintain good contact between bone fragments and allow early weight bearing, withstand functional work load and enable patient mobility. However, treatment with rigid metal plates can cause localized bone atrophy due to stress-shielding and interference with blood circulation, and the weakened bone can refracture after plate removal. It is to our belief that if the stiffness of the plate can be less and if the ultimate tensile strength can be improved, the healing rate and quality of the osteomized bone can further be improved. Fortunately, our colleagues happen to come up with a newly developed α Ti-7.5Mo alloy, which seems to possess many of the desirable
