Unit 4 A
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen:
My topic is “A Night the Earth Didn’t Sleep” taken from Unit4. My presentation consists of 9 parts: Text analysis; Objectives;Focal and difficult points;Learner analysis;Approach of teaching and learning;Teaching stages and procedures;Assignment;Teaching aids;Blackboard design.
Part1: Text Analysis
This is Unit 4, Book 1. The title is A Night the Earth Didn’t Sleep. This unit mainly tells basic knowledge about earthquake. I will divide this unit into 4 periods. This lesson is the first one of Unit 4. And I will teach reading in this class.
Part2: Objectives
It contains two parts: Instructional objectives and Educational objectives.
The instructional objectives
Improve Ss’ reading skills, such as skimming, scanning, detailed reading, conclusion and so on.
Enlarge general knowledge, such as what will happen before the earthqauke, we can take what measures to protect ourselves during the earthquake and so on.
Improve learning strategies, such impression, conclusion and so on.
The educational objectives
Affective objective that encourage Ss to help each other when they are in disaster
Foster awareness of cultural understanding, such as the reason of earthquake
Part 3 Focal and difficult points
The focal point
what (the story’s structure)
why (because the story’s structure is the plot of the Tangshan Earthquake. Only understand the structure, Ss can know the story clearly.)
how (analyse every paragraphy’s main idea, then let Ss discuss it ,last have a conclusion)
The difficult point
what (what happened before and during the Tangshan earthquake)
why (because the earthquake destroyed nearly everything, and all the things might give Ss confusion.)
how (use a table to present what have been destroyed in the earthquake)
Part 4 Learner analysis
Most of the Ss have experienced the Wenchuan earthquake and known the devastation of earthquake. The story about the Tangshan earthquake is similar to that. Ss may be interested in it. S
