Abstract Withthedevelopmentofmodernsciencereformation,moreandmoreattentionhasbeenpaidto thestudentsabilityofscienceinquiry,theattitudetowardsscienceandtheunderstandingofthenature ofscience.Scienceinquiryembodiesthenatureofphysics,withwhichstudentscanunderstandphysical worldmoreclearly.Theresearchonthestudentsabilityo#scienceinquiryisnotonlytheneedof physicsteaching,butalsotherequirementtorealizetheoverallaimsofthestudentsabilityofscience inquiry.Havingstudyingtheprevioustheoriesandresearchesinthisfield,wetrytochoosethe characteristicsanddevelopmentofthestudentsabilityofscienceinquiryasthetopicofourstudy. Thenweprovidesomemeasurementandguidanceonscienceinquiryteachingandcultivatingthe studentsabiliytofscienceinquiry. Themainworkofourstudyisthefollowing: Firstly,accordingtothedefniitionofscienceinquiryandthetheoryofsubjectability,wehave definedthestudentsabilityofscienceability:Itisthepsychologicalconditiononwhichstudentsfulfill aseriesofinquiryactivitiessuccessfully.Basedontheconceptionoftheability,wehaveconsturcted themodelofabilityofthescienceinquiry.Themodelisa3-Dmodel,consistingofcharacters (profundity,flexibility,sensitiviyt,criticism,originality),inquirycontent(physicsquestions,laws phenomena,conceptions),andseveninquirykeyelements(posequestions,formulatehypotheses,make plansanddesignexperiments,conductexperimentsandcollectevidences,analyzeanddemonstrate, communicateandcooperate,evaluateandassess).Onthebasisofthismodel,wehavegotten32items oftheability. Secondly,wehavedesignedquestionnairetablesbasedonthe32itemsbywhichtomakethe surveyofconditionsofthestudentsabilityofscienceinquiry.HavingsurveyingtheBeijingstudentsin smallscope,weinvestigatedthestudentsinXianinlargescope.ThestudentsfromGrade8toGrade 12wereaskedtoanswerthetables.Basedonthe595effectivequestionnaires,analysishasbeenmade todiscoverthedevelopingpatternandthedifferencesofthestudentsabiliyt.
