Discussions and analysis of the characteristics of works in different times are carried out around modern German literature. History of literature, literary theory, genres, and works are also introduced in class. This course treats history of literature, authors and their works, methodologies for literary criticism, basic concepts in literature as an organic whole to provide students with a general picture of the German literature. Tools and methodologies will be tested in works of different genres, all selected with great care. Besides a brief introduction of the German literature, basic concepts of literature and basic research tools and genres, the course also introduces national history and cultures in German-speaking countries as necessary, as a means to instill in students an idea that literature and social realties are integrated.
