垒!!竺型A 垒!!竺型 A Translation Project Report of Under the eenwood Tree：Part Four Abstract MTI Candidate：Zhou Ji Advisor：Cao Xiying Thomas Hardy occupies a decisive position in English literature and his Wessex novels have their own features，which show idyllic life with a strong flavor of local custom and culture．Under Greenwood Tree，the first one of Wessex novels，is extremely featured in dialogues between characters and description of sceneries．In order to represent the comeXt of the source text and make adaptation to the features of characters better,communicative contextual adaptation of Verschueren is employed as the basis to guide the translation activity of the fourth part of Under the Greenwood Tree． Verschueren deems that communicative contextual adaptation is divided into mental world，social world，and physical world and communicative context is mainly distributed into three aspects in translation study：adaptation to mental world，adaptation to social wodd，and adaptation to physical world．This paper focuses on adapting the psychological thoughts of characters，the social culture，and the physical world these three aspects． There are four chapters in this paper．The first chapter introduces the translation project，including the background，the purpose and the significance of this translation proj ect；Chapter Two shows brief presentation，not only giving brief introduction to the source text writer and the content of source text，but analyzing the style and features of source text to the point；Chapter Three is about preparations and translation difficulties 111 万方数据 四川师范大学硕士学位论文during 四川师范大学硕士学位论文 during translating process and discusses translation theory and translation cases； Chapter Four is the conclusion of this translation project． Under the guidance of communicative contextual adaptation，the author deals with translation difficulties during translating process from the aspect of communicative context，analyzes translation cases，which offer some suggestion to other
