j●■一，●_l j●■一，●_l A A Research on Limitation of TCM Terms， Translation and Consideration of TL Readers by Tan Ling by Professor Huang Zhending Submitted tO The Department of English Language and Literature in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Arts in the subject of English Language and Literature Hunan Normal University Changsha May，2011 AbstractTraditional Abstract Traditional Chinese Medicine English terms translation is the key bridge for Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)to spread in the world and do good to the people’S health．As the vigorous exchange of the foreign translation and research of TCM and the uprising inspire for TCM in the world，the TCM English terms translation has become more and more prosperous．In the process of TCM English terms translation， standardizing the English translation of TCM terms is urgent and essential．However，with its long history，abstruse language and unique theoretical system caused difficulties in translating TCM terms into English．So we have to research on its translation more profoundly，to find more useful ways to enhance it development．Consideration of TL readers in TCM terms translating limitation is discussed in the paper． Since the reception theory was introduced into translation studies，reader’S positions and roles have received closer attention．Such reader-centered paradigm provides a new theoretical perspective for translation studies· Language has the function of carrying and storing cultural contents，SO each language inevitably has huge amounts of words and expressions reflecting particular cultural objects of the nation speaking the language· mlen the translator meets such words and expressions，because there is no no corresponding linguistic symbol in the target language as reference for the particular cultural objects，certain symbols have to be created as references．However,these linguistic symbols have not been accepted yet by the target—language readers，SO the translato
