AbstractABSTRACT Abstract ABSTRACT The retractable roof structures can be free from the influence ofthe weather，and they make the dreanl comes tree，which the people are outdoors while it is sunny and indoors while it is rainy．A high tide of constructing retractable roof structures has been rising among the whole world in recent years．At present，more than 200 di圩erent sizes and kinds of retractable roof structures have been erected．and more than 20 of也em are large sDall retractable roof structures．Some of these structures werk well，hewever，there are still quite a few of these structures having different problems in using．At present the theories of the retractable roof structures lag behind the practical engineering．There are only tens of related literatures have been presented in the world，moreover most of them are inst about the introduction of the engineering itself and are lack of the systemic research of these structures．There is liRle deep research about the retractable roof structures．even less in the field of the earthquake resistance of the retractable roof structures．For these reasons，the paper systemically studied the characteristics of free vibration and the responding of the large span rigid retractable roof structures under different direction earthquake．The paper tries to present some reasonable suggestions for the further research and engineering design，and it makes efforts to do good to the development of the large span rigid retractable structures in the future．The below is the work in detail： 1．ne PaDer generalizes the development of the retractable roof structures and indicates廿1e insufficiency of retated research．Based on the above．the writer puts forward the question need to be further researched：study on the seismic behavior of large span rigid structures． 2．According to也e structure forn2 of the Ohita Dome in Japath the writer ereates a structure model、Ⅳjtll 1 15一m span．which is a rigid retractable roof structure and supported on the bottom arch
