A welcome booklet
I. Teaching aims and learning objectives
By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
1. improve the ability to use English;
2. improve the ability of thinking and language transfer;
3. do things in cooperative learning groups;
4. know how to design a welcome booklet about their school.
II. Teaching contents
1. Searching for related information about the introduction to the school.
2. Designing a welcome booklet in cooperative learning groups.
III. Focus of the lesson and predicted area of difficulty
Cultivate students’ confidence of using English and improve students’ motivation to learn English.
Design an interesting, readable and attractive welcome booklet.
IV. Teaching procedures
Step 1 Lead-in
1. Introduce a friend called Tom from Grade 7 to all students.
2. Ask students to make a welcome booklet to help Tom know about his new school.

Step 2 Introduction
1. Introduce to students the idea of the welcome booklet.
2. Have a discussion: what should be included in a welcome booklet (homework, subjects, school rules, after-school activities, teachers …).
3. Show students a good example of the welcome booklet.
【设计意图】通过展示手册介绍booklet概念,并引导学生设身处地思考新生最想了解的学
校情况; 学生讨论后,帮助学生总结出即将要搜集整理的信息; 通过展示学校手册,介绍
front cover, back cover等概念,并展示范例welcome booklets中关于homework, places, school
activities, teachers的介绍。
Step 3 Preparation
Work in groups of four. Choose A, B, or C to decide what topics to write in their booklet.
Each member in a group chooses what he or she wants to write about.
3. Work together and design pages, sizes, contents, back cover and front cover of their welcome booklet.
Find the students who are going to write about the same topic and sit together. Discuss what and how to write about the topic.
5. Teacher helps them analyze and all students make the last decision about what and how to write.
