Ask the students“What is he/she doing?”by drawing some simple pictures on the blackboard. Review the present continuous tense. Step2：Lead-in Guess a word：show some pictures and let the students guess a word with eight letters.(festival) (We have some festivals in China. But there’re still some other festivals in the United States. Right? So different countries have different cultures. And they have different festivals.) Step3：Before you read. 1. Show the culture background of this passage：the festivals in common and in difference. Then lead in the Dragon Boat Festival and introduce the Dragon Boat Festival by a short video. 2. Make a survey：If you go to the United States alone(独自), do you want to stay with an American family or live alone? (There’s still “no place like home”.——East, west, home is best.) 3. Predicting： Before reading the passage, predict what the passage is about by some pictures. Think about “If today is Dragon Boat Festival, what are people in China doing now?” Discuss “What are people in the United States doing on Dragon Boat Festival?” (“Maybe…or…”) Step 4：While you read. 1. Skimming：Lead the students to skim for the main idea, not for details. 2. Scanning：Quickly scan the passage and answer two questions. 3.
