Learning objectives:
Ss will be able to:
1. Words and expressions(词汇和词组):
Learn and practice the new words and expressions (Race,host,study,state,the United States, American, dragon, any, other,Dragon boat festival, young, child, miss, wish, delicious, still, etc).
2. Sentence patterns and the communicative functions(句型及其交际功能):
(1) Learn and practice the sentence patterns (He is studying in the United States/He is living with an American family in New York/His mom and aunt are making zongzi/His dad and uncle are watching the boat races on TV./The mother is reading a story to her young children./The father is watching a soccer game on TV./He is talking on the phone to his cousin in Shenzhen.) through reading about what Zhu Hui’s family members are doing and what Zhu Hui’s host family members are doing on Dragon Boat Festival.
3. Language skills and strategies(语言技能和策略):
(1) Make predictions about the possible contents according to the pictures.
(2) Scan for the history and custom of Dragon Boat Festival.
Scan for the information about :
What are Zhu Hui’s family members doing at 9:00 am on Dragon Boat Festival?
What are Zhu Hui’s host family members doing at 9:00 pm in New York?
(4) Talk about the history and custom of special days in China.
4. Cultural understanding and learning strategies(文化理解和学习策略):
(1) Be aware that special days have special meaning and people observe special custom for the days.
(2) Love our family and be good with others.
Teaching procedures:
Stage1: Revision and Lead-in
Step1: Greeting as usual
Step2: T gets Ss to read numbers and gets them to think about the usage of number(count/time/date)
Step3: T shows Ss some pictures about clock and gets them to read the time of the clock.
Step4: T gets Ss to read the date by asking a question(What’s the date today?)(April 14th,2017/May 30th,2017)
Stage2: Pre-reading
Step1: T shows some pictures about Dragon Boat festival and
