Zhongshan Ophthal mic Center , S un Yatsen U niversity , Guangz hou 510080 , China 　　Abstract 　Objective 　To observe the effect of M selective muscarinic antagonist ,pirenzepine ,on form deprivation myopia. 　 1 Methods 　Fourty onedayold chickens were divided into 4 groups randomly : Ⅰnormal control group , Ⅱform deprivation group , Ⅲvehicle control group and Ⅳpirenzepine injection group. Form deprivation myopia was established in right eyes of group Ⅱ, Ⅲand Ⅳby placement of a translucent occluder. The deprived eyes of group Ⅲand Ⅳreceived daily subconjunctival administration of vehicle control and pirenzepine ,respectively. Optical measures such as refraction ,axial length ,equatorial diameter and structure observation under light and electronic microscopy were made at the end of the experiment. 　Results 　Values of refraction status ,axial length and equatorial diameter of the eyes in pirenzepine injection group were significantly lower in comparison with the form deprivation group ( P 005) , but were higher and form relatively myopia when compared with normal control group ( P 005) . There were no significant differences in optical measures between drug control and pirenzepine injection group ( P 005) . Histopathologic examinations indicated that pirenzepine obviously alleviated the pathologic changes of sclera.
