HIROSHIMA The history Hiroshimas origins can be traced to the end of the 6th century and beginning of the 7th century when the area began to prosper. At the time, Hiroshima was divided into two regions, Aki and Bingo. Towns prospered along transportation routes through the mountains and on the inland sea. In 1589 Mori Terumoto, a regional warlord during the warring states period, gave Hiroshima its name and built a castle in what is now Hiroshima City. During the Edo period(1603-1867), modern-day Hiroshima prefecture was divided into two domains, the Fukuyama Fief to the east and Hiroshima Fief to the west. Under the abolition of clans, the two regions were joined into a single Hiroshima Prefecture and by 1876 the current borders had been established. The location THE PAST Atomic Bomb At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, by order of President Truman, the first Atomic bomb, nicknamed Little Boy was exploded over a point near the centre of Hiroshima, destroying almost everything with a radius of 830-1,450 meters. The damage beyond this area was considerable, and over 71,000 people were killed instantly. Many more later died of injuries and the effects of radiation. Atomic bomb-enola gay After the World War Two The Japanese dedicated post-war Hiroshima to peace. A destroyed area named Peace City has been set aside as a memorial. A peace Park was build. A special hospital built here treats people suffering from exposure to radiation and conducts research into its effects. Peace Memorial Park Childrens Peace Monument Hiroshima Memorial Cenotaph Inscribed on the Memorial Cenotaph in Japanese is: “Let all the souls here rest in peace, for we shall not repeat the evil.” ⅡTODAY Hiroshima Castle Hiroshima Castle is the Big Fish of Japanese Castles. It is, as far as I know, the only castle that has ever been destroyed by an atomic bomb.
