This was after the investigation had concluded and the CFIA implemented the removal of specified risk materials (SRM) from the human food supply chain. This is a testament to the transparency and continual professional communication by the Government and the industry. Rallies of support were organized across the country were beef was consumed and purchased in significant quantities. The public began to feel angry that the Canadian beef industry was being shut off from their export markets not because of science but because of political consequences. This was in spite of the OIE guidelines which does not prohibit trade but in fact protects it. No other country in the history of BSE has experienced an increase in the consumption of beef following a case of BSE. This happened in Canada and will demonstrate to the world that transparent and factual communication will
