Section B(2a--2e) Period 5 He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing 教学设计 西工大附中分校 马德民 Analysis of the teaching material: The topic of this unit is He Lost His Arm But Is Still Climbing. This unit is designed to teach students how to face accidents or problem by reading the story about Aron Ralston. This lesson is not so closely related to students’ daily lives. But it encourages students to be brave to make good decisions. It’s quite easy to arouse students’ interests in communicating with each other by the story here. In the process of learning, students are encouraged to express and share their own ideas on describing what they think will happen to them and the life. Students are expected to go on learning the key words and target language learnt in the fifth period of Section B of this unit. Analysis of the students: Students in Grade 8 are interested in the story about others. And because they have learnt Section A of Unit 1. They are supposed to understand how the accidents or problems will happen to us by retelling the story about Aron Ralston, especially about the order of the event, by themselves. However it’s difficult for many students to retell the story with the proper sentence structures in the reading. The class aims to get the students to use the reading strategies to comprehend the reading correctly and to follow the order of the event. Teaching aims: Knowledge aims: Students will master the following vocabulary, such as: sunburned, have problems breathing, ourselves, be used to, run out (of), cut off , get out of, be in control of , keep on (doing sth.), mean, spirit, give up, etc. Students will learn and grasp the following sentence structures: 1. He is used to taking risks. 2. He almost lost his life because of accidents. 3. He found himself in a dangerous situation when climbing in Utah. 4. He used his knife to cut half of his right arm. 5. With his left arm, he bandaged himself
