ABSTRACTThe ABSTRACT The fact of the development of power industry and the scale．up of coal—fired boiler has prompted a number of studies of using high-tech in coal quality detection．in which the determination of calorific value of coal is a key．According to the specific requirements of the machine and the previous work based on PCI，this paper presents a design and implementation ofautomatic calorimeter based on embedded system． The calorimeter consists of two separate subsystems．A data acquisition and control system based on USB interface．which concentrating on USB communication,multi-channel hi【gh resolution temperature measurements and automatic operation．A embedded display and operation platform with a core microprocessor of$3C2410，hardware including memory,display and communication module，software including arm-Linux，Qt／Embedded and Qtopia,a USB device driver and a calorimeter GUI application were also developed on the platform． In view of widely used bomb calorimeters based on Wintel architecture，a automatic calorimeter based on embedded system provides a better synthetic performance including cost，operation，expansibility, and minimizing the operator time required per test．The new machine features a hi曲resolution temperature measurement system(range 15～28℃，0．001℃resolution)，full diagnostics for electronics and mechanical systems．communication control and operation automatization． The instrument is calibrated by burning certifled benzoic acid to determinewater equivalent”．and experimental results of these five calibrations below 0．1％RSD precision．The heat of combustion of testing samples determined under standard conditions iS calculated on the basis of the observed temperature rise while taking account of heat lOSS． and calorific error iS below 30J／g．The product,which iS fully met with national standards，has been proved reliable，accurate and easy to operate in many power plants． KEYWORDS Calorimeter，USB，CY7C68013，temperature measurement，ARM，S3C2410，Linux I
