By using the data of 104 green building projects and samples in case studies in Shanghai and Suzhou, the paper compares the subsidies and the incremental costs at the local and national 1 evel s. According to the outcomes of comparison, the positive external ity of green buildings in China has not been fully corrected by the cconomic incentive policies. Additionally, we find that the number of green building operation certificates is much less than the number of certificates during design phase. Based on the resuIts of study, the paper recommends economic inventive policies to promote the futures development of green buildings in China.
