II II Abstract We studied the format of “X zhong (de/zhi) X” in this paper, which is widely used in the modern Chinese. Under the guide of Construction Grammar and category theory, I systematicly analyzed the structure from its syntax, semantics and pragmatics aspects. At present, the Chinese academic circles didn’t pay much attention on this format, so there is still room for deepening. The paper is finished in the approach of combining description with explanation, structure research with semantics research, and synchronic analysis with diachronic analysis. Our main content is as follow: Firstly, This paper defined the format of “X zhong (de/zhi) X”, make sure it is a “range--target” format. We summarizes out three kinds semantics of this structure. firstly, it represents some kind of specific or extreme characteristics of people, things, phenomena, or affairs. secondly, it emphasises the important position of something, some people, some objects and so on. thirdly, it is used for nominatum. And we simply investigated the usage of this structure’s origin and evolution. It firstly appeared in the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, and at that time, the nomination of the structure is stronger. In Eastern Han dynasty, it refers to a virtual state of perfection, and most time it is nominal. It has achieved prosperity in the text of “Da Zheng Zang”. From the Six Dynasties to Ming Dynasties, the format only scattered in some texts. In modern times, after the movement of vernacular, the format developed towards another period of prosperity. In contemporary, because of the popularity of the network, the format towards a more prosperous period, It frequently appeared in the network, television or other media, and the dialogues of literary and artistic works.
