Abstract
As an indispensable part of English teaching in the junior high schools, English writing teaching can not only consolidate what the students have learnt in class, but also help them apply that knowledge to the practice so that they can develop the integrated language abilities. However, there exist many serious problems in the current situation of English writing teaching in the junior high schools. For example, many students show no interest in writing. Facing the writing task, they often have no words to write, which brings about their careless attitude toward their writing tasks. The writing has become a common tough problem annoying the students and English teachers.
In view of the problems existing in the writing teaching of the junior high school, this study adopts the way of teaching experiment to conduct experiment among 76 students from two classes of an ordinary junior high school in Shanghai, so as to investigate whether the process writing approach can improve the students’ interest in the writing and their attitude toward it, the students’ writing strategies, and the students’ writing level. The study consists of three parts. In the first part, the author investigates the problems existing in the writing teaching in junior high school through questionnaires. In the second part, the author puts forward the process approach in writing teaching and makes teaching programe after looking up relevant books and papers and consulting his mentor as well as experienced English teachers. During the process of conducting the first stage of action, the author also reflects and revises the action plan. In the last part, the author conducts the second period action, and then collects data and analyzes it.
