Step1 Warming up
Get the students to discuss the New Year’s resolutions.
To arouse the students’ interest and lead into the topic.
Step2 Pre-reading
Talk about Miss Wang’s New Year’s resolutions.
To present some new words.
Step3 While-reading
Fast reading:
(1)Ss read quickly to find the main idea without reading every word. Its a good idea to read the first sentence in each paragraph a litte more carefully.
Match and underline the words and phrases that helped you decide.
(2)Read the passage again and put the letters (A--D) inthe correct places in the passage. Circle the words and phrases that helped you decide.
Slow reading:
Read Para. 1 carefully and answer the questions:
Read Para. 2 carefully and fill in the blanks:
Read Para. 3 and answer:
Although there are differences, most resolutions have one thing in common. People hardly ever keep them!
Why?
To develop the students’ ability of reading topic sentences.
Learning strategy: the first sentence is usually the topic sentence.
To develop the students’ ability of guessing the missing words from the contex.
Learning strategy:Guess the missing words from the context.
Step4 Post reading
Fill in the blanks according to the passage.

To review the key words and the phrases.
Step5 Homework
1.Write down one of your resolutions by using the words or phrases learned in the passage.
2.Read the passage Resolutions Worth Keeping and answer the questions on the sheet.
