二等奖作品: 周亮亮 A Comparative Study on the English Translations of Model Verbs in Hongloumeng 《红楼梦》中情态动词的英译比较研究 Abstract In modern linguistics and literature studies, more and more emphasis is being placed on the interpersonal function of discourse. In spite of this trend, few scholars conduct researches on the representations of interpersonal meanings of the English versions of Hongloumeng. According to SFG, the different translations of the modal verbs inevitably affects the interpersonal function in TTs. Based on SFG and Munday’s summary, the thesis aims to probe into studies concerning modality and translation and attempts to find out in what way the modal verbs in the ST is realized in the TT. If the ST is rendered by two translators whose native languages are totally different, more inspirational researches are expected to be carried out in this respect. After a detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis, it is hoped that the different methods of translating modal verbs in the two TTs can be concluded. Key words: interpersonal meanings, Hongloumeng, modal verbs 摘要 在当代语言学和文学研究中，语篇的人际功能越来越受到学者的重视。所谓人际功能，指的是讲话者运用语言参加社会活动的功能。通过这一语言功能，讲话者使自己参与到某一情景语境中，表达其身份、地位、态度等，并试图影响他人的态度或行为。但是，目前还没有关于《红楼梦》中情态表达的英译研究。 本论文以Halliday的系统功能语言学为理论依据，对杨戴夫妇的英译本和霍克斯英译本进行分析，目的在于发现原著中情态动词如何在两译本中被再现，并总结出两英译本中翻译情态动词的不同方式及其对人际意义的表达的影响。 本研究将借助语料库对情态动词翻译进行定量和定性分析，试图发现两英译本中的不同翻译方法。 关键词: 《红楼梦》，人际功能，情态动词 2 Literature Review 2.1 Studies on Modality The first work on what is now generally referred to as modality was written by Aristotle 2000 years ago. He treated modality in terms of modal logic. He discussed logic relationships between possibility and necessity, which are the two central concepts in traditional modal logic.
