Teaching difficulties and emphases: To get the students to know how to read a speech and some background knowledge about the history and the development of the Olympic Games. Step1: Leading-in It is known that the Olympic Games are held every four years and it is a great honor for a country to host the Games. Ask the students the following questions to get the students to know more about the Olympic Games: 1) Have you ever seen any Olympic Games ? 2) Where were they held? 3) Do you think they are exciting? Why? 4) Who is your favorite athlete ? Why? Step 2: Fast reading for general ideas Get the students to go through the passage as quickly as possible and try to find answers to the three questions in part A.
