The surface acceleration and d isplacement h istories in the liquefied sites of the Su- perstition H ills of USA and the Kobe Earthquake of Japan are compared and the d ifference of the displacement spectra for the liquefied and the non-liquefied sites are identified. A lso, by the modified effective stress method, the effects of the liquefied sand layersw ith d ifferent depth and thickness under the input of seism icw avesw ith di-f ferent intensities and d ifferent form s on the displacement spertra are investigated. The results ind icate that the liq- uefied soil layers show significant amplification on the surface d isplacement spectra. The amplification is started at 1s and the most amplification period range is 1~ 5s by increasing of 0. 1- 0. 7m for spectrum d isp lacem ents. The spectrum d isp lacem ents increase by 0. 1~ 0. 3m and 0. 4~ 0. 7m for the intensity and the
