There are a lot of non PoE switches out there, so it’s a great opportunity to migrate customers to the latest PoE switches. Cisco now has a broad range of switches that support both the Cisco PoE pre-standard and the 802.3af PoE standard. PoE offers real benefits to customers: Simplicity – A single connection provides network and power to end devices, enabling simplified, low voltage installation, eliminating costly permits and power conduit runs. AC-Free deployments – Separate AC power is no longer required to support end devices such as IP telephones, wireless access points, and video cameras. Mobility – Low-voltage, Ethernet -powered devices can be easily moved without worrying about AC power wiring, reducing cost and minimizing business disruption. Safety – 48V DC low voltage integrated into the Ethernet connection reduces user exposure to local AV power circuits. Operational resiliency – A centralized power solution simplifies power distribution and allows for centralized universal power supply (UPS) deployment. Simplified manageability – PoE systems unify management of Ethernet connection and device power. Remote management –Devices can now be controlled centrally, power can be shut down or reset remotely.
