Most previous researches have focused on population growth when looking at the relationship between population growth and land use while few on land use in perspective of the change of landuse system and changes in land resource management. On the base of a comparative analysis of the relationship between population growth and land use in tradition landuse system both in China and western countries, esp. a study of the change in the relationship between population growth and land use in China since 1949, this paper argues that it is Collective Ownership of Land Policy and Equal Division of Land Policy that have stimulated China population growth.
